February 2009 class instructions

Hello, Ladies! Had a great time last night! If you weren't able to make it - We MISSED you! Hope to see you in March. Ashley has your kits at the store and they are waiting for you! Also, the albums are ordered, but they are coming from a small company and we are waiting for them to ship! So, here the directions for our class this month. It may be hard to tell from the pictures and for those of you who weren't able to see the layout in person. On the first page (left side), we are creating a flap. The scallop paper and the circle paper lift up to add more photos and tags. There are more pictures, but I wanted you to have an idea of where we were going with this before you get too deep in to the instructions! Let me know if you have any questions!

1 sheer overlay of your choice
1 Creative Imaginations Luggage Tag
1 2”x 4” acetate bag
5 plastic flowers
3 foam flowers & leaves
3 glitter brads

Additional tools and Supplies used but not included in kit:
Ranger Crackle Accents
Staples and Stapler
Dimensional adhesive of your choice (i.e. Foam squares, Pop Dots)
Straight trimmer
Scorer (Most trimmers come with one or you can purchase a scoring blade)
Corner Rounder
Paper Piercer or small hole punch
Glue Dots (Or whatever adhesive you prefer to use to attach ribbon)

Instructions:
1. Apply Crackle Accents over the top of your chosen title die cut. Set aside to dry. Apply Crackle Accents to any of your other accent pieces and set aside to dry.
2. Cut 4 ½” off the top of the “Love Bird” scalloped paper. Cut 4” off the top of the “Lovely Circles” pattern paper. Cut “Special Swirls” paper in to three strips measuring 5 ½” x 12”, 5 ½” x 12” and 1” x 12”. Set the scraps aside, we will use them later in the layout.
3. Attach on three sides one 5 ½” x 12” “Special Swirls” strip to bottom of left white cardstock page to form a pocket. Attach white ribbon with red dots at top of pattern paper.
4. Score “Love Bird” paper 1” from top and then again 1” below first score line. Do the same with the “Lovely Circles” paper. Fold papers on top score line so they will fold over the back of the white cardstock. Place “Love Bird” paper over “Lovely Circles” paper. When they are aligned at the top, “Lovely Circles” should show about a ½” below “Love Bird” scallops. Now, fold papers on bottom score line so that they fold back and you will be able to lift the papers and view what is underneath.
5. Cut two 2” strips from red “Special Swirls” 1”x 12” strips. Fold each strip in half.

6. Place red strips at the top of the page and 2” from each side of the layout and fold over the top of the layout. Use a paper piercer or small hole punch to make a hole in the center of the red strip. (You are going through seven sheets of paper, so push hard!)
7. Place 4” x 6” photo (corner rounded, if desired) to bottom right of page. Punch out die cut frame from accent sheet and place at bottom left of photo with the photo overlapping part of the frame. Place flower on frame as an accent.
8. Apply Crackle Accents to birds on “Love Bird” page and set aside to dry.
9. On second white cardstock paper, place “Lovely Circles” approximately 5” from top. Attach only on two sides so that a tag can be placed behind and slide in and out. Attach “Special Swirls” second 5 ½” x 12” strip at bottom of page so that 1 ½” of the circles stick out above it.
10. Cut 5” piece from corner of the “Love Bird” scrap. Place at bottom right of page over the “Special Swirls” paper to be used as a journaling block. Attach one of your die cut accents to the journal block with dimensional adhesive.
11. Place sheer on vertical 4”x 6” photo using glue dots behind the design. Place die cut from the center of the die cut frame at bottom left of photo. Attach photo to bottom left of page about ½” from left side.
12. Cut a 5 ½” strip from “Individual Blooms”. Cut 7 ½” from that strip and use as a photo mat for a 5”x 7” photo with the pink side up and attach to top right of page about ¼” from top right corner. Cut remaining “Love Bird” scrap in half. You should have two pieces measuring 3 ½” x 4 ½”. One will have a scallop edge on top and the other will have scallops on two sides including a corner. On piece with scallop on top add a wallet size photo and journaling underneath.
13. Cut red ribbon in to five 4” sections. Fold three of these in half and staple to top of scallop “tag” that we just put the picture on. Place tag in pocket behind “Lovely Circles” strip.

14. If title die cut is dry, attach to left page with dimensional adhesive so that it slightly overlaps the swirl on the “Love Bird” paper. Flip up flap and attach to the back side of the “Love Bird” paper the 4 ½”x 5 ½” “Individual Blooms” pink scrap and remaining 3 ½”x 4 ½” “Love Bird” piece so that the “Love Bird” scallop corner is up in the left and the pink slightly overlaps the straight edge. Corner round the pink paper, if desired.

15. Cut remaining “Individual Blooms” paper in to three equal 4” sections. On “Lovely Circles” paper on flap. Attach a 4”x 6” photo slightly to the left of center and trim one 4” section to 3”x 4”. Set aside scrap. Corner round two right corners on the 4” side and attach with straight edge on the right side of the photo. Cut remaining red “Special Swirl” strip in half. Corner round one piece on the left 4” side and attach on with straight edge on right side of photo.

16. Flip up “Lovely Circles” flap. Use remaining “Individual Blooms” 4” pieces to create two tags to go in the “Special Swirls” pocket. Corner round edges. Staple remaining ribbon pieces to top. Attach wallet size photos and embellish with remaining scrap pieces.

Additional Notes: I used this page to showcase some of my favorite pictures and times with my husband over the last year. As you can see there are many more opportunities to add more photos than what the sample shows. This would be a great trick to use for any occasion where you have a lot of photos! Additional tags can be added to the pockets and on the flaps.

Bonus project: “Luggage” Tag
We are making a little "shaker" box with the plastic flowers for our filler. Take a 3”x 5 ½” scrap and cut to fit front of tag. Measure opening and cut that size opening out of the middle of the paper scrap. Attach to front of tag. Take plastic flowers and place in 2”x 4” acetate bag. Seal bag. Attach to back side of tag with window. Attach wallet size picture to back tag so that it will appear through window and flowers. Use dimensional adhesive to attach two tags together. Build foam flowers with leaf, flower, and brad. Add to end of tag and cover any adhesive marks. Paint or ink edges and back as desired. (This tag can also be used as two separate pieces and can be put in any of the pockets on this layout!)

  1. Thanks! Got my kit from Ashley yesterday! Did you use the crackle accents on your die cuts? That is the only thing I don't have.
